Hospital Bar Amsterdam Is Now Amor Rosso (Oudezijds Achterburgwal 97)

Hospital Bar Amsterdam still stands at the same address, but it now trades as Amor Rosso. Walk to Oudezijds Achterburgwal 97 looking for nurses, hospital beds and prescribed lap dances and you will find a cocktail bar with pole dancers. Most listings still describe the old concept, so visitors arrive expecting a night that is no longer on offer.

Here is what is in the building now, what it costs and how it compares with a seated show.

What happened to the Hospital Bar

The building did not close and the door did not move. Same address at number 97, same phone number, +31 (0)20 627 89 54. This was a rebrand, not a closure.

The old website, hospitalbar.nl, now redirects to amorrosso.nl. The facade now carries AMOR ROSSO signage, and the business trades as AMOR ROSSO — BY CASA ROSSO. What changed is the concept and the name above the door.

The venue does not publish the date of the change. A neighbourhood listing for the Wallen Festival described Amor Rosso at number 97 as an erotic bar in May 2026, so it was in place by then. That is the earliest confirmed sighting of the new name.

Amor Rosso today: address, hours and tickets

The venue’s own site describes Amor Rosso as a modern cocktail bar in the Red Light District and publishes its hours, its social accounts and a ticket link. The site mentions no performance line-up, no age limit and no prices. Expect a livelier room than the website promises.

The neighbourhood listing from May 2026 describes a signature cocktail, a DJ, pole dancers and drag queens at this address. The venue’s own website mentions none of it. That is the gap worth knowing about before you walk over.

The ticket itself is sold as a relaxed, sociable alternative to a sit-down show, and that is a fair description. You stand, you hold a drink, nothing starts at a fixed time. If you want a programme with a beginning and an end, this is the wrong room.

The eight-hour validity is worth understanding. There is no show time to be late for, so the ticket lets you look in early, eat somewhere nearby and come back at midnight when the room has filled up. Buy it for the evening, not for an hour.

What the ticket does and does not cover

One drink is in the ticket price and nothing else is. The venue publishes no drink prices and no policy on tipping performers, so assume neither is covered. Ask what a drink costs before you order the second one.

Decide your ceiling before you go in and carry both notes and a card, because the venue publishes no payment policy either. Do not let anyone open a tab for you. If anything is offered to you at the table, agree the price and the length out loud before it starts.

It is also dark and loud. There is a DJ and the music is the point. If you wanted somewhere to hear each other talk, this is the wrong bar on this canal.

If there is a queue, or they turn you away

The venue publishes no capacity and no door policy. The old bar rewarded arriving early at weekends and nothing suggests that has changed. Buying ahead is the only thing that removes the risk of the walk.

If you are stood outside without a ticket, there are two doors within a few minutes’ walk. The Banana Bar at number 37 still sells at the door only, €50 for 60 minutes including four drinks, checked September 2026. Moulin Rouge at 5–7 takes a booking on your phone from the pavement, from €50 per person, checked October 2026.

What Amor Rosso does not publish

Nine things people ask me constantly that the venue puts nowhere in writing.

• The entry price in euros. No figure appears on the venue’s site, and the online price converts to your own currency.
• Whether you can still walk up and pay at the door. The venue does not publish a door policy, so buy ahead unless you are willing to risk the walk.
• Drink prices inside, and what the included drink actually is.
• Whether lap dances are still sold, and at what price.
• Any dress code. Nothing on the venue’s site sets one.
• Any photography or filming policy.
• The exact date of the rebrand.
• Whether large stag groups are still welcome. The old bar advertised to them; Amor Rosso publishes no group policy, so phone ahead if there are more than six of you.
• Anything about seating or step-free access. The hospital beds are gone, so assume you will be on your feet all evening.

Treat all nine as unknown until you are standing at the door. If any of them would change your mind, phone the venue before you walk over.

What the Hospital Bar used to be

The Hospital Bar was an erotic bar with a medical theme. Dancers dressed as nurses served drinks and pole danced, with hospital beds for seating and a "doctor" prescribing lap dances. Bachelor parties were the audience it advertised to.

Third-party listings from that era quoted entry at around €25 per person including one drink. Our own listing of the time recorded doors at 20:00–02:00 Monday to Thursday and Sunday, and 19:30–02:00 on Friday and Saturday. Those figures are historical and nobody at number 97 charges on that basis now.

Then and now, side by side

The timetable barely moved. The old bar opened at 20:00 on weekdays and 19:30 on Friday and Saturday, and Amor Rosso opens at 20:00 every night and closes at 02:00 just as it always did. What changed is that you now buy the door in advance.

Amor Rosso or Moulin Rouge: which suits your night?

These are two different products on the same canal, a few minutes’ walk apart, and I send people to both. Amor Rosso is a bar with performance in it. Moulin Rouge is a seated erotic theatre with a fixed programme.

Choose Amor Rosso if you want to stand with a drink, arrive when you like, stay as long as you like and not be tied to a show time. One drink is already in the ticket price. Accept that nothing you buy after that first drink is priced anywhere you can check.

Choose Moulin Rouge tickets if you want a seat, roughly 50 minutes and about four live acts of ten minutes each. Tickets cost €50 per person, the same price every evening, checked October 2026. Drinks are not included, so you buy them at the bar.

Those two prices sit in different currencies because Amor Rosso never publishes a euro figure. Convert it yourself before you decide. The real difference between these two nights is what the ticket buys, not only what it costs.

Other erotic venues on the same canal

All four sit on the same canal as number 97, a few minutes’ walk at most. Details checked September 2026.

The Banana Bar is the closest thing left to what the Hospital Bar used to be, and it still sells at the door only. All of these venues are run by the Otten group, the company behind Casa Rosso, the Bananenbar and the Erotic Museum, which is why the new name carries the words "by Casa Rosso". Same family of rooms, different price per hour.

Finding the building, and seeing it with a guide

Amor Rosso is on Oudezijds Achterburgwal at number 97, about five minutes on foot from Dam Square and three from Nieuwmarkt metro station. The Oude Kerk (Old Church) is the landmark to steer by. Look for AMOR ROSSO on the facade, because people still walk past hunting for the old Hospital Bar sign.

How much does it cost to get into Amor Rosso?

The venue publishes no entry price on its own pages. The online ticket started from €39 per person, checked September 2026, with one drink included, and the same ticket reads as about $44 on the dollar storefront. The old Hospital Bar prices no longer apply.

Do you need a ticket in advance, or can you walk in?

The venue sells entry online through its own website, and that ticket stays valid for 8 hours and can be cancelled free up to 24 hours ahead. It does not publish a door policy, so buy ahead unless you are willing to risk the walk. If you would rather not book, phone the venue first on +31 (0)20 627 89 54 and ask whether they are selling at the door that night.

Can you still get a lap dance there?

The old Hospital Bar sold them, charged on the spot. Amor Rosso says nothing about lap dances anywhere in its material, so treat this as unknown until you are standing at the door. If anything is offered to you at the table, agree the price and the length out loud first, because there is no published tariff to argue about afterwards.

What is the age limit at Amor Rosso?

The ticket terms state 18+. Bring a passport or ID card, because the old bar enforced 18+ strictly and nothing says the new one is softer. The venue publishes no dress code and no photography policy, so assume nothing on either.

Is Amor Rosso couples-friendly?

The ticket is sold as a relaxed, sociable alternative to a sit-down show, which suits couples and small groups of friends better than a fixed programme does. Beyond the 18+ rule on the ticket, the venue publishes no policy on who it admits.

Is Amor Rosso owned by Casa Rosso?

They belong to the same group, which also runs the Banana Bar, the Erotic Museum and the peep show. Amor Rosso trades under the name AMOR ROSSO — BY CASA ROSSO. The group was built by Jan Otten, the Red Light District entrepreneur who died in 2024, and is now led by his stepson Dylan Meijer.

Moulin Rouge or Amor Rosso: which should I pick?

Pick Amor Rosso for a bar you can stand in with a drink, no fixed show time and one drink in the price. Pick Moulin Rouge for a seat, a 50-minute programme of roughly four acts, and a price you know before you walk in, from €50 per person. Knowing the full cost in advance is the deciding factor for most people I speak to.
