The first Thai restaurant Bird is located in the heart of Amsterdam’s Chinatown, at the Zeedijk. Restaurant Bird is very popular among both tourists and locals. Every day people are queuing up at the entrance of the restaurant, very willing to wait to get some authentic Thai food.
During rush hour, it takes about 15 to 30 minutes to get a table and it’s worth waiting for. Unfortunately this is inevitable because you can only make reservations from 10 persons and only from Sunday till Thursday.
When seated, you’re surrounded by a nice Thai atmosphere because of the furnishing and the fact that only Thai people work here. You’ll just forget you’re in Amsterdam!
Restaurant Bird contains of 3 cosy area’s with seats pretty close to each other. Some people may find this a drawback, but I think this is part of the Asian food experience.
The best seats are at the window in the back because from there you have a really nice view on the Oudezijds Achterburgwal, the place to be in the Red Light District.
But let’s talk about the main reason people love this place: The food! The menu offers lots of choices with all different kinds of meat and fish, including our favourite dish “Prawns in red curry and coconut” (no. 20).
The food with it’s colorful looks, it’s rich taste and unbelievable smell triggers the sensory system at a maximum… Food orgasm is guaranteed!
Although the prices for a main aren’t as cheap as the average 100 Baht you pay in Thailand, compared to Dutch standards they’re very reasonable. Service is fast and it won’t take long before you can enjoy your stunning dish.
