Cafe In De Olofspoort is a popular cafe in Amsterdam’s Red Light District. Especially among real Amsterdammers. The cafe is known for its wide selection of coffees and teas, as well as its comfortable and relaxed atmosphere.
Cafe In De Olofspoort is a great place to relax and people watch, and it’s also one of the few places in the Red Light District where you can get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. If you’re looking for a quiet place to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea, Cafe In De Olofspoort is definitely worth a visit.
In De Olofspoort describes itself as an “oasis of peace in the midst of the turbulent city center of Amsterdam.” We completely agree with that statement and find it to be the most relaxed gin bar in Amsterdam!
Inside In De Olofspoort you won’t find a pinball machine or slot machine, and no canned music either. There is a real piano though, can you imagine?
The cafe is a so called “bruincafe” or brown cafe in English. These are basically the Dutch versions of British pubs and make up an essential part of Dutch culture. Located in a 17th century building some people compare it to a pub right out of a Harry Potter movie.

They also serve some homemade liqueurs. Of course, there is also plenty to choose from in foreign spirits, ports, wine and sherry. For the beer lover they serve nice cold glasses of Amstel lager, Afflighem doubles and Wieckse Witte from the bottle. They also sell soft drinks.

So why should you visit In De Olofspoort? One Tripadvisor reviewer summed up our own thoughts pretty nicely:
“No free wifi, no television playing MTV or other random clips in loops, no drunk and loud people. A place you can talk and enjoy drinks and friends, one of my favourites in Amsterdam.”
