Fake drug dealers in Amsterdam and customer satisfaction don\u2019t go hand in hand. They represent a serious problem for the municipality. In the last fifteen months alone a total of <strong>1,208 street dealers<\/strong> were arrested for selling fake drugs. They predominately come from Germany and Great Britain looking for a weekend of the \u201cthe Amsterdam experience\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>A tab of XTC or lines of cocaine are a part of that. But those vital elements sometimes turn out to be something completely different. XTC\/ MDMA turns out to be aspirin, a gram of cocaine: baking soda.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Non-Drug_Using_Tourists_Are_Victims_Too\"><\/span>Non-Drug Using Tourists Are Victims Too<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The fake drug-dealers don\u2019t only double-cross those tourists who are looking for drugs.\u00a0Especially in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amsterdamredlightdistricttour.com\/fr\/de-wallen-amsterdam\/\">De Wallen<\/a> &amp;\u00a0on <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rembrandtplein\" rel=\"noopener\">Rembrandtplein<\/a>\u00a0et <a href=\"https:\/\/www.toursinamsterdam.com\/leidseplein-amsterdam\/\">Leidseplein<\/a> random tourists get accosted in an aggressive manner. Sometimes they even will be forced to buy drugs. It\u2019s not out of the ordinary for such \u201cdeals\u201d to end in a classic street-robbery.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Authorities_Stop_Fake_Drug_Dealers_In_Amsterdam\"><\/span>Authorities: Stop Fake Drug Dealers In Amsterdam<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The authorities want to end the troubles with fake drug-dealers. However, the call for harsher penalties bumps into legal objections. Dutch drug laws for instance, do not apply to the selling of fake drugs. The public prosecutor doesn\u2019t believe a separate law against fake drugs is feasible. So far dealers usually get a couple hundred-dollar fine. Tourists will be warned against street-dealers via short movies and posters. In the same way the public was informed during the killer white heroin scare in 2014. Strategic communication must make the \u2018tourist trap\u2019 visible. Besides this, tourists will be encouraged to press charges. Something tourists mostly refuse to do because of fear of getting a fine themselves.<\/p>\n<p>On the supply side the authorities will apply the \u201cpersonal approach\u201d to the predominately young fake drug dealers in Amsterdam.
