Here’s why: William of Orange (1533-1584), who led the Dutch war of independence against Spain in the sixteenth century. William received the  title of Orange because he had inherited the French principality of Orange from his cousin René de Chalon.

Every year, on the 27th of April, The Dutch celebrate Kings day. This is a national holiday in the Kingdom of the Netherlands in honor of the head of state. In all parts of the Netherlands this is celebrated with various festivities, including street markets, parties and wearing orange clothing! So, if you ever visit the Netherlands during Kings day, make sure you wear something orange. Every Dutchman will appreciate that!
