A buyer has been found for Amsterdam’s City Brothel<\/h2>\n

A real estate buyer has been\u00a0found by the City of Amsterdam for the so called City brothel: 5 buildings<\/strong> with a total of 19 windows<\/strong> in the Red Light District. Here, so the plan reads, Sexarbeiter<\/a> would be able to work as entrepreneurs in their own businesses\/brothels. \u201cThe buyer is a party of impeccable reputation\u201d says Amsterdam’s Mayor Van Der Laan<\/a>.\u00a0Still, as yet there are not enough hookers to take on the challenge.<\/p>\n

A local television station in Amsterdam –\u00a0AT5<\/a> – had an interview\u00a0with the Mayor of Amsterdam, but Van der Laan did not reveal the name of the buyer.\u00a0He said: \u201cIt is a social institution of high integrity and has a big wallet.\u201d\u00a0Until the sale is finalized definitively, Van Der Laan doesn\u2019t want to say anything more specific about who is buying the City Brothel. In early 2015 it became clear that the City had begun\u00a0looking into\u00a0methods for how to begin its own brothel in order to fight abuse in the sex workers industry.<\/p>\n

The idea of\u00a0a City Brothel in Amsterdam<\/h3>\n

\u201cThe idea is to have hookers begin their own company in their own premises thus preventing a lot of the bad working conditions and trafficking. Now, they are often dangling on\u00a0the rope of people who exploit them\u201d says the Mayor.\u00a0\u201cBoth the City and the Council are in favor of beginning experiments in this field\u201d.
\nOne of the conditions is HVO-Querido<\/a> helping the prostitutes\u00a0in setting up their business and finding a \u2018clean\u2019 owner of the premises is another one.<\/p>\n

Not enough interested prostitutes\u00a0as of yet<\/h3>\n

\"Amsterdam<\/a><\/p>\n

That party will lease windows to the workers, enabling them to perform their activities there.\u00a0\u201cSome prostitutes are very enthusiastic about this new approach, but have never done anything close to being independent entrepreneur\u201d says Van der Laan. Therefore the project’s kick off date will probably be January 1, 2016<\/strong>.\u00a0Until then a lot of construction work will be required in the accommodation, so that the disabled can also be welcomed as clients.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs soon as the City Brothel is a reality, the city will at arm\u2019s length excercise supervision on the whole experiment\u201d, Van Der Laan emphasizes.
