USEFULL INFORMATION

Everyone has heard about Amsterdam's Red Light District, but not everyone knows that the city also has its own Chinatown. Complete with its own Buddist temple which is supposedly one of Europe's largest. It's basically a few streets that go from Nieuwmarkt up towards the Central Station of Amsterdam. Obiviously there's also  plenty of supermarkets, Chinese restaurants and all kind of great places to eat. Just look for the restaurants with ducks hanging in the window.

Restaurant Nam Kee is a great place to eat Chinese food! Looking for a good Thai restaurant in Amsterdam? Check out Bird!

"Black Corner" is situated near the old church and is easily recognizable as the ladies are all coloured. Some of them will open their door as you walk by and offer bargain deals...

These are the numerous individuals selling hard drugs on the black market. Most of them are harmless, but their goods can often be damaging. When walking in the Red Light District, these guys will approach you and ask if you want to purchase cocaine, ecstacy or other kinds of hard drugs.

If you want to visit Amsterdam by car, the best thing to do is to park at the P+R parking places. They are sign posted from the city ring. For 5,50 Euro you can park there for a day and continue your journey by rail (this is included the ticket).

Remember, sex is business for the prostitutes. So be polite and courteous. Don't get any ideas about threatening the girls or harming them, because bodyguards, despite not being visible are always close at hand...

Taking photographs of the girls is usually forbidden. If you break this rule, your film or camera could be confiscated or even destroyed.

Known in Amsterdam as the "VVV", the Tourist board is hugely efficient and the staff are extremely helpful. Their main office can be found directly opposite Central Station (on platform two), at Leidsesquare and in Schiphol Airport.
